iinetwork migrations & activations

What do we mean by 'migration'?
A migration is the physical transfer of your telephone line from the Telstra DSLAM to an iiNet DSLAM port within the exchange in your area.

Do I get an email notification if I am migrated onto an iiNet DSLAM?
Yes. You should get email notification via the email address provided to you (or supplied by you) at time of sign up.

My exchange is listed as “active” next week, how long afterwards will I be migrated on to the DSLAM?
We perform migrations as soon as possible after an exchange is active. Unfortunately, giving a reliable overall “estimation” of how long it takes for this to happen is difficult as we depend on Telstra to actually schedule the migration. As soon as we have a scheduled date from Telstra, we post it to the DSLAM Rollout page.

When you say migration is in Week 4, what day will I be migrated?
We say Week 4 as migration is not an instant process, it happens over a period of time. If it says migration in week 4, it means it will happen some time in this period – we are not able to be any more specific than that.

My exchange says migration is scheduled for Week 4 in a specified month. Does this mean I’ll definitely be put onto an iiNet DSLAM port in that month?
We do our best to make sure every compatible customer is migrated over to our DSLAMs. However, there are a number of reasons why a customer may not be migrated. For example, if your telephone line is not connected directly to the telephone exchange, then unfortunately we cannot migrate you to our DSLAM. If you are connected via a sub exchange or a RIM, then often we cannot place you on an iiNet DSLAM. If it is possible for us to migrate you onto an iiNet DSLAM, then you will be migrated.

When I sign up with iiNet, do I immediately get put on an iiNet DSLAM, or do I get put on the Telstra DSLAM then get migrated over at a later date with everyone else?
If there is an iiNet DSLAM in your exchange and it has free ports, you will be connected to the iiNet DSLAM provided you are a compatible customer. If no ports are available however, we will notify you prior to activation.

Why can’t you tell me the exact date of migration?
We request a migration to take place, however, ultimately migrations are scheduled through Telstra. Migrations are performed by contractors who are migrating hundreds of lines at a time. The order they complete them in is dependant on MDF position convenient for them. As soon as we know a tentative date for activation we will email you this date along with details of your account.

Who should I call to find out more about my migration status?
While our support staff can provide you with all the help you need in configuring and troubleshooting your Internet connection, they are not trained in the complexities of our national infrastructure strategy. This extensive FAQ is designed to answer the most common questions we receive. If you are wondering whether you have been migrated, log in to our Toolbox service and look at the Login History for your account, if the number you called starts with “10.” then you are on an iiNet DSLAM.

I'm on a plan that is no longer available for sale and I plan to stay on it for the time being. Will I still be migrated to an iiDSLAM?
If you are a compatible customer you will be migrated regardless of the speed or name of your plan. This however has no impact on the speed you receive, unless you are on a broadband2+ plan.

My exchange is listed as active, with no migration date, does that mean I’m on an iiNet DSLAM port?
It depends. If you’re an existing iiNet customer and your phone line is compatible with our DSLAMs, we’ll do our best to make sure you are migrated over to an iiNet DSLAM port if they are available. If you’re just joining iiNet, places on an iiNet DSLAM are allocated on a first come first serve basis.

My exchange now has an active date of XXXX; on that date will I be on an iiNet DSLAM?
This date represents when an iiNet DSLAM will be able to accept new customers onto our equipment. A migration to bring existing customers across to our hardware will be scheduled and forecast in the “Migration” column. Migrations do not happen immediately, but they do happen as soon as possible.

I can’t find my exchange on the list. What does that mean?
It means we are not currently in the process of building an iiNet DSLAM there. This does not mean that we don’t intend to in the future, it simply means construction has not yet commenced and we are unable to provide a forecasted completion date.
